BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A former employee of the Boise County Clerk's office has been charged with embezzlement after an audit discovered thousands of dollars missing. The Idaho Statesman reports reports that a criminal complaint filed Tuesday by the Idaho Attorney General's Office says the employee stole a total of $46,922 in 2013 and 2014. The Boise County Commission chairwoman called for a forensic audit in May.

The audit reports that the county had an estimated theft loss of $29,782 in 2013 and $10,608 in 2014. Auditors also found significant problems with internal control over financial reporting and mistakes in tracking capital assets.
