(KLIX)- With the many new laws that have gone into effect in Idaho, one of them takes aim at animal cruelty. The new law now makes it a felony on the third offense to neglect or abuse an animal.  Organizing a cockfight is now a first offense felony if illegal drugs or gambling are involved. Twin Falls Animal Shelter Director Debbie Blackwood says it may not be the strongest law, but it’s a step in the right direction. Blackwood also wants to warn people about giving their pets away, specifically dogs. She says on occasion dogs will be used to train fighting dogs, to make them more aggressive. Blackwood says people should just be cautious of who they give their animal too. They recently had a young pit-bull brought in who they suspect may have been used as a bate dog.
