BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho County Commissioner Jim Chmelik has filed paperwork with the Idaho Secretary of State's Office to run for lieutenant governor. Chmelik in an announcement on Thursday says he wants to transfer federally owned lands to the state of Idaho. The announcement sets up a primary challenge with Republican Lieutenant Governor Brad Little. Chmelik says he's opposed to the state health care exchange under the federal Affordable Care Act. He also says education standards for Idaho school children should come from Idaho educators and parents.
