BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) –Thank goodness for dads. That’s what one young man is thinking after what was supposed to be a fun ski trip to the slopes turned scary.

Winston Goss of Boise and his son, Ethan, were skiing at Brundage Mountain recently when the younger Goss sped past his dad, “hit a jump, then vanished beneath the snow,” according to a report by KTVB in Boise.

Ethan had fallen into a tree well – “a treacherous patch of loose snow created when a tree's lowest branches keep snow from packing into the area around the trunk,” according to the report.

Winston Goss went to help his son, but became frightened when only Ethan’s arm and part of his leg was visible. Luckily, it was enough to pull him up far enough that Ethan could climb out of the well.

Goss had been filming his son when the mishap occurred and posted the video online as a warning to other skiers. His message: know the dangers around you, and never ski alone.
