BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Democratic legislative lawmakers gained one seat in Tuesday's election after facing defeats in statewide and congressional races.

Unofficial results show that Democrat Dan Rudolph beat Republican incumbent and state Rep. Thyra Stevenson of northern Idaho's Lewiston by 26 votes. This gave Democrats a slight edge after they lost another northern Idaho House seat to a Republican newcomer. Other narrow races included House Minority Leader John Rusche, where unofficial vote counts showed he won with just 46 votes.

Meanwhile, former Olympian champion and Democratic challenger Dick Fosbury lost to Republican incumbent Rep. Steve Miller by 126 votes. In all other legislative races, new lawmakers replacing outgoing lawmakers are from the same party.
