Idaho Democrats Want to Unseat Luna

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Democrats are hoping to unseat Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna in 2014. The Idaho Statesman reports the state’s minority party believes a Luna foe could succeed by focusing on Luna’s K-12 reforms that were rejected by voters in 2012.

Democratic Party Chairman Larry Kenck says voters who dumped those propositions will likely vote against Luna, a Republican. Republicans counter Luna’s campaign for a third term in 2014 likely won’t be derailed by lingering discontent over the so-called “Luna Laws.”

Idaho GOP Chairman Barry Peterson concedes the campaign to save Luna’s education overhaul at the polls was terribly botched. But he says memories of the unpopular laws are already fading, making them less of a factor in next year’s vote. So far, no Democrats are running against Luna.
