BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)- An Idaho farmer will spend two week behind bars and pay a fine for intentionally baiting ducks onto his farm to hunt.

According to the U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson, Gregory Obendorf, 61, of Parma, was sentenced Monday to 15 days in jail and must pay a $40,000 fine for charges of conspiracy to bait migratory birds and placing bait for migratory birds. Both of the charges violate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Obendorf was accused by Idaho Fish and Game officials of intentionally leaving piles of corn in his field to attract ducks. Officials say Obendorf invited hunters onto his property to hunt the baited birds.

According to court documents the farmer had placed a number of duck blinds near the corn piles. The judge determined the baiting altered the movement of the migratory birds and detrimentally affected others who hunted on nearby public lands.
