Idaho Food Bank Manager Sentenced for Stealing

GRANGEVILLE, Idaho (AP) — The former manager of a now-closed western Idaho food bank has been sentenced to at least six months in prison for stealing more than $50,000 from the organization.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1crdmb8) 2nd District Court Judge Michael J. Griffin sentenced 51-year-old Leta J. Akins to two to five years in prison for two felony counts of grand theft. However, he retained jurisdiction, meaning she could be eligible for parole if she completes a six-month treatment program.

Prosecutors say Akins used a debit card belonging to the Idaho County Food Bank to purchase personal items between April 2009 and August 2012, when the food bank closed because it could not meet its operating expenses.

Akins also was ordered to pay $45,000 in restitution.
