Religion and politics - some say they don't mix but that doesn't stop people from stirring the pot.

I'd argue that as a parent you should do everything you can to make sure your kids are safe and well taken care of. Most parents would agree. The problem that arises is that each parents definition of how they make sure their kids get the best is different in each home.

Maria Walton, from Idaho, had a sickness as a child that could have been taken care of by doctors. Her parents refused the treatment based on religious beliefs when she was a child and now she is 20 years old and waiting for a heart and lung transplant.

Under current Idaho law parents have the right to refuse medical treatment for their children even if the child dies from a treatable illness. That law seems to be based on the first amendment right to religion.
