BOISE, Idaho (AP) — More than 650 nonprofits and charities across Idaho collected more than $1 million in just 24 hours as part of the third annual "Idaho Gives."

Organizers say nearly 8,900 Idahoans participated in the online fundraising blitz to make donations to hundreds of nonprofits statewide. The Idaho Humane Society gathered in roughly $22,000 in donations, claiming the top spot among large nonprofits. Meanwhile, The Idaho Foodbank collected $21,100 and Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest received $20,400.

Last year, roughly 600 nonprofits and charities raked in more than $780,000. Stemming from similar events taking places in several other states, the Idaho Nonprofit Center has partnered with nonprofits throughout Idaho to encourage people to choose a cause to support.
