BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Republican Rep. Mark Patterson, under scrutiny stemming from a 1974 rape case, won't run for re-election in 2014 but didn't disclose his plans for the upcoming Legislature.

Patterson made the comments Monday, ahead of a local GOP meeting in Boise Tuesday where he could be asked to resign. He's been the focus of attention since the Idaho Statesman in November reported his concealed weapons permit was revoked for not disclosing his guilty plea in the rape case.

Patterson said he's the victim of retaliation, insisting Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney targeted him for legislation in the 2013 session seeking to punish Idaho police officials who help federal agents confiscate weapons. Sen. Fred Martin, among Republicans from Patterson's Boise district seeking his resignation, remains hopeful the first-term lawmaker will quit voluntarily.
