Idaho Lawn Jobs Returning
State labor officials say they are seeing another sign of things turning in the Idaho economy: Small growth in the number of lawn and garden businesses. That's good news for a state that lost nearly one-third of its lawn and garden work between 2007 and 2010. Idaho Department of Labor officials say more than 2,000 jobs were lost during that period. But Labor Department Economist Will Jenson told the Idaho Business Review that some of those jobs are returning, mostly in south central and southeastern Idaho. Still, landscaping and gardening business owners are taking a cautious approach. The construction industry has yet to rebound from the downturn. Nampa-based Greenhurst Nursery & Garden Center owner Mike Blickenstaff says it still pays to take a conservative approach to hiring and inventory.
