Idaho Man Admits to Shooting Deputies

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A southwestern Idaho man who shot two Canyon County sheriff's deputies has reversed course and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. After initially pleading not guilty, Kyle Alan Batt pleaded guilty on Wednesday in 3rd District Court to two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

Batt, who is 28, faces a sentence requiring him to spend at least 30 years in prison. He's already been sentenced to 15 years in prison in federal court. In exchange for Batt's plea, Canyon County Prosecutor Brian Taylor agreed to drop sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily harm.

Prosecutors say Batt fled when deputies tried to arrest him last October and that he then lured them into an ambush, shooting both multiple times. Both deputies survived. Batt's sentencing is set for December.
