BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A man convicted of killing a 30-year-old woman at a Garden City convenience store in 1981 has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after four previous death penalty sentences were overturned.

The Idaho Statesman reports 4th District Judge Ron Wilper sentenced 54-year-old Lacey Sivak Wednesday. Sivak was convicted of killing Dixie Wilson, who was shot in the head five times and stabbed 20 times. Sivak argued his co-defendant, Randall Bainbridge, was responsible.

Court testimony indicated the .22-caliber gun used in the shooting was stolen from a store where Sivak's mother worked a few weeks before the killing and found in Sivak's storage locker with only his fingerprints on it. Defense attorney Elisa Massoth sought the possibility of parole for Sivak. Bainbridge is also serving a life sentence.
