Idaho Man Sentenced for Parking Lot Murder

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho man who shot and killed another man outside a southwest Idaho Walgreens store has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Twenty-six-year-old James Whitewater of Notus received the sentence Monday in 3rd District Court and must serve 19 years before becoming eligible for parole.

Whitewater in December pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing 25-year-old Pedro Martin of Nampa.

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Wasserburger, who supplied the handgun used in the July 13 shooting, pleaded guilty in December to aiding and abetting voluntary manslaughter.

He was sentenced last week to up to 15 years in prison.

Police say Whitewater, hours before the shooting, beat Martin after Martin's girlfriend told him Martin had broken her jaw with a beer bottle earlier that month.
