BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwestern Idaho man who died in police custody has been identified as 33-year-old Anthony Firkins Jr. of Caldwell. Authorities say Firkins died Friday morning after fleeing from police and crashing his pickup, then running away and being found hiding under a trailer.

Nampa police say Firkins resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. He stopped breathing a short time later. Paramedics who responded to the initial report treated him and took him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Critical Incident Task Force and the Canyon County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death. Sheriff's Office spokesman Joe Decker says an autopsy was conducted Friday but the cause of death has not been determined.
