Idaho Offering Micro-Grants to Train Workers

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Department of Labor says it's offering a new micro-grant program to train workers and keep them in Idaho. The program, in conjunction with the Idaho Workforce Development Council, has $500,000 dollars to help fund training. Each applicant can receive up to $25,000 dollars in funding. Applicants must be located in Idaho and represent a community based team with businesses, education and other partners; the community based team must provide a 100-percent in-kind match.

Training may include work-based learning opportunities or classroom training that addresses the skill gaps identified by employers. The hope is that the program can support the state's goal of having 60 percent of 25-34 year-olds achieve a degree or certificate and that it helps stem the out-migration of young adult workers from Idaho communities.
