LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole has set a Jan. 16 hearing to review its own decision to release a convicted double murderer in five years. Executive Director Olivia Craven told the Lewiston Tribune yesterday that the commission will only be reviewing the decision to grant parole to Bryan Lankford. He was sentenced to life in prison for the 1983 beating deaths of U.S. Marine Capt. Robert Bravence and his wife, Cheryl, of El Paso, Texas. The couple had been camping in central Idaho when they were attacked. In October, the commission set Oct. 24, 2018, as the release date for the 55-year-old Lankford. Craven says the commission is reviewing its decision because of a procedural error. She declined to elaborate on the nature of the error.
