BRUNEAU, Idaho (KLIX) – Fifty-thousand trout will be released this week at CJ Strike Reservoir in preparation for spring fishing season.

Idaho Power will release the fish between Monday and Wednesday, according to information from Idaho Power, which manages hydroelectric facilities on the Snake River.

The company is alternating the release of the trout between the reservoir’s Cottonwood and Jack’s Creek accesses.

As part of its federal licenses agreement, the company is required to make efforts to preserve and enhance recreational opportunities on the river. The fish stocking is part of that effort.

“Our trout-stocking program is one way Idaho Power balances its operations with environmental stewardship,” Idaho Power biologist Ben Reingold said in the prepared statement. “These are nice-sized fish that will provide a lot of enjoyment for folks fishing at C.J. Strike this spring and summer.”

The 10-inch fish, which are raised at a hatchery in Hagerman, can grow several inches per year if they’re not caught right away. Anglers who catch fish with jaw tags can enter their names in a drawing for $1,000. Call 800-388-6011 with the tag number, date of the catch, and reward value listed on the tag, if any.
