Boise, Idaho (KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV) - Idaho Public Instruction Superintendent Tom Luna announced this Monday morning that he will not seek a third term to his office.

At the news conference he said he is not ready to endorse anyone. American Falls principal Randy Jensen and Grangeville Teacher John Eynon have both entered the race on the Republican ticket. Luna said he decided not to run because he thought it would become a political distraction and take away efforts to implement recommendations of a recent task force. Luna said he had talked with former Republican state senator Melinda Smyser a wife of a prominent Capitol lobbyist about possibly running.

On the democratic side so far, Jana Jones of Idaho Falls indicated she will be a candidate.
