TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Idaho schools are hoping to participate in a federal program that helps send teachers to poor rural districts that struggle to fill vacancies. The Twin Falls Times-News reports districts including Shoshone in central Idaho have set a goal of having Teach for America instructors in classrooms by 2014.

That's after the Board of Education approved the national corps in Idaho this year. Rob Waite, superintendent in Shoshone, isn't worried the two-year Teach for America program might not keep teachers in his community for long.

Waite says he'd rather have a really good teacher in the classroom for just a year or two, rather than have an average teacher for 30 years. Teach for America includes recent college graduates and professionals who commit to teach in rural and urban districts.
