PAYETTE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Police is investigating after an apparent shootout between a sheriff's deputy and a suspect left both men injured. ISP spokeswoman Teresa Baker says the Payette County deputy was looking for a suspect when he spotted the man's vehicle at a Payette convenience store Thursday afternoon. Baker says the suspect shot the deputy in the leg, and the deputy fired back, critically wounding the suspect. Both men were flown by air ambulance to area hospitals. Officials have not yet released their names, but said the deputy's injury was not considered life-threatening.
