MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Police want residents to be wary of telephone calls from people claiming to be one of their officers. Scam calls are being reported from all over Idaho.

The scammer, whose caller ID says the Idaho State Police, appears to target students, professors and people from other countries. The scammer says he has an arrest warrant for that person and they will be deported if they don't pay a fine to clear the warrant.

The Idaho State Police reminds the public that they will not call anybody on the telephone to inform them that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. And the police do not collect money or any financial information over the phone for any reason. To report a scammer, call the State Police or visit the Federal Trade Commission website.
