BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Officials with the Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline say the organization hit a record-high number of calls during the first part of the year and more volunteers are needed.

The organization received 1,100 calls during the first quarter of 2015. The hotline first started taking calls in January 2014, and fielded about 2,800 calls during all of last year.

Director John Reusser says the number of calls is a good thing because it shows the hotline volunteers are helping more Idaho residents in crisis. But he says the hotline needs more volunteers to keep up with the need.
