FORT HALL, Idaho (AP) — Members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes say the Teton High School's Redskins mascot is disrespectful of Native Americans and they support a decision to drop it.

The Teton Valley News reports tribal and Teton School District representatives met Monday at Fort Hall. Tribal spokeswoman Randy'l Teton says they need to understand and respect each other's cultures. District superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme previously decided to discard Teton High School's Redskins mascot and logo.

After a June 12 meeting with district chairman Doug Peterson, Woolstenhulme said he would hold off on the change until public comment can be heard. The district's board of trustees will hold a public meeting on July 8 at the high school.
