BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the South Boise Women's Correctional Center.

The agency in a statement says 29-year-old Janeal Walker was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at a Boise hospital. The agency says prison staff found Walker hanging in her room at 11:45 a.m. Sunday and started resuscitation efforts. Paramedics continued those efforts.

Correction officials say they've asked the Ada County Sheriff's Office to assist in the investigation into Walker's death. Correction officials say Walker's criminal record includes convictions for three counts of possession of a controlled substance in Ada County. Officials say she would have been eligible for parole on Nov. 1, and her full-term release date was Oct. 31, 2021.
