Idaho is a cold place if you come from equatorial Africa.

This past December, I was at the Post Office in Twin Falls and while speaking with an African man who was mailing a letter he expressed how shocking experiencing the cold is for a newcomer.  You can be told about it, but you don’t know serious cold until you find yourself in a cold climate.

A story from the Teton Valley News details the experience of a surfer from Sierra Leone who came to Idaho to learn snowboarding.  When asked how long he planned to stay, he didn’t hesitate.  He deadpanned depending on the cold, he could just turn around and go home.  Instead, he now believes 20 degrees above zero feels great compared to below zero.  He adjusted quickly!
