Idaho’s Concealed Gun Laws May Be Substantially Rewritten

BOISE (KTVB) -- Idaho Republican lawmakers working on gun legislation say they are working on a comprehensive bill seeking to rewrite most of the state's concealed gun laws.

Legislators announced the new plan Friday at the same time declaring that the so-called "constitutional carry" bill is dead, calling it a poorly written piece of legislation.

House Speaker Scott Bedke says their proposal is needed because current law is confusing, even in Idaho's pro-gun right culture.

Rep. Jason Monks says the plan would remove the existing exemption that allows elected officials to carry concealed guns without a permit and streamline the language in the laws to make it easier to understand for law enforcement and citizens.

The proposed legislation is expected to be introduced to the House State Affairs Committee next week.
