Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' may be clinging to classic cinematic traditions by embracing 35mm and 70mm film for its upcoming release, but the massive science fiction adventure isn't being shy about embracing new technology. In addition to screening on IMAX screens all over the country, filmgoers in select cities will soon be able to preview the film in a very unique way: through the Oculus Rift.

For those who won't follow technology news, the Oculus Rift is the virtual reality headset that many think represents the future of interactive entertainment. Recently purchased by Facebook for an ungodly sum of money, the device is worn over the head with noise canceling headphones, providing an immersive experience that is better seen than described.

According to the official 'Interstellar' site, people in New York, Houston, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles will have the opportunity to explore the world of 'Interstellar' using this technology. We're not sure what this entails exactly, but the official description promises that "People can sit down, strap in, and immerse themselves as they travel through the 'Endurance' spacecraft in zero gravity through a custom 'Interstellar' Oculus Rift experience."

This VR experience will begin its run in New York City at the AMC Lincoln Square 13 from October 6-8. From there, it will head to the AMC Gulf Pointe 30 in Houston from October 17-19. The next stop will be the AMC Universal Citywalk Stadium 19 in Los Angeles from October 25-27. Finally, the tour will wrap up in Washington DC at the Smithsonian, hanging around from November 5 through December 6.

If this intrigues you, make sure you visit the official site to pick up a ticket. Meanwhile, 'Interstellar' itself will open on November 7.
