ISP Expect Increase in Pot after Oregon Passes Legislation

BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- Pot activists got a win Tuesday night in Oregon after a measure to legalize marijuana for recreational use passed with 55 percent of the vote.

The measure will allow adults to legally carry one ounce of marijuana, and have up to eight ounces at home. Each household can grow up to four plants at a time for personal use. Washington and Colorado both legalized the plant for recreational use in 2012. But in Idaho, any amount of marijuana is still against the law – even if someone bought it legally in another state. "It's illegal to possess it, it's illegal to drive with it in your vehicle, illegal to deliver it to somebody else, even if you're just passing through Idaho," Idaho State Police Cpl. Brandon Bake said.

Police have seen an upswing in marijuana coming into Idaho from other states in recent years. ISP troopers seized five times as much pot from traffickers in 2013 than in 2011. This year, they have already seized about 550 pounds.
