ITD Seeks Alternative Transportation Project Applications

BOISE, Idaho (News Release) – Ensuring mobility throughout the state frequently involves more than just a passenger vehicle and a highway – it also involves bicycle and pedestrian mobility – and so the Idaho Transportation Department, through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), is looking for applicants to help grow these options over the next three years. Applications are due by June 1.

ITD is seeking applicants for federal funds of up to $500,000 for infrastructure projects and up to $60,000 for non-infrastructure projects. Non-infrastructure is generally an educational/safety-type project, without construction of facilities or improvements. The online TAP manual can answer questions about eligible projects.

Applications should be emailed to ITDAltContracting@itd.idaho.gov with the title “2016 TAP Application – City of ______” in the subject line, or a compact disc or thumb drive can be mailed to Idaho Transportation Department, Attn: Jared Holyoak (HQ Contracting Services), P.O. Box 7129  Boise, ID  83707-1129

Eligible project applicants are local governments, regional transportation authorities, transit agencies, natural resource or public land agencies, tribal governments, school districts/schools or local education agencies, nonprofit entities responsible for administration of local transportation safety programs, and any local or regional government entity responsible for transportation or recreational trails.

State agencies and metropolitan planning organizations are not eligible.

TAP will add a variety of alternate transportation projects with an emphasis on safety, mobility and economic opportunity. The types of projects include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, projects to enhance access to public transportation, and Safe Routes To School educational projects.
