One day in the not too distant future the town of Jerome may have a new fire station.

But for now the base of operations for the Jerome Fire Department is being moved to a newer facility at fire station 2.  Jerome fire officials say Fire Station 1 has served as the base of operations since it was built in 1953 when Jerome had a fire chief and an all-volunteer fire crew.  Lately there have been five fire fighters staying at the station and officials say it’s just not suited for that.  Moving the base of operations to fire station 2 will save the city from $15 to $20,000 dollars and the response time will not be appreciably longer even though station two is about two miles farther south.  Officials say old station one may be used to house other county offices such as human resources and planning and zoning.
