Jerome Student Taken Out of Class for Not Taking Required Test

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) One girl from Horizon Elementary School in Jerome has been un-enrolled from school, because her parents have made the choice to have he not take the standardized tests. Bill Crofts is a dentist in Jerome and he does not agree with the standardized testing system. He knows it is not a requirement for his daughter to move on to the next grade so he elected to keep her out of the testing and that's where the problem started. Croft says school officials wouldn’t let their daughter into class.

  I reached out to the schools superintendent to find out the school districts policies on the testing requirements. Jerome Schools Superintendent Dale Layne told Idaho ‘s First News they are going with basic directions from the state, where all kids enrolled in public schools take the SPAC assessment. He adds that it is also a graduation requirement.

In order to receive federal funding, states are required to have 95% of its students take the ISAT tests. But if more students choose not to take the test they too may face the same dilemma. If Crofts can't get the issue resolved in the Jerome school district, he plans to take it to the state level.
