NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho man's request for a new trial after being found guilty of voluntary manslaughter has been denied.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that a 3rd District Court judge on Wednesday denied the request by 19-year-old Jacob Hernandez of Caldwell. His sentencing is set for Tuesday. Hernandez was found guilty in the Christmas Eve fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Ricardo Sedano. Hernandez was also convicted of two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of second-degree kidnapping.

The kidnappings stem from Hernandez forcing two women to drive him away from the scene. A co-defendant, Edgar Covarrubias, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.
