(KLIX)- As of Monday the Kinyon Road Fire has burned more than 190,000 acres. It is expected to burn more than 200,000 acres before it is extinguished. Fire crews have been battling the blaze since Saturday afternoon. On Monday a national Type II Team has moved in to relieve local resources. The fire has actively moved westward towards the Sailor Creek area. It is about 40 percent contained. Fire Management Officer Chris Simonson says is burning through a lot of brush and grass making it a quick moving fire to fight. Plus, he says weather has not helped crews battle the fire. Thunderstorm activity has caused winds that have fueled the fire and helped it move. Despite weather activity crews are having to work in extreme heat. Assistant Fire Operations Supervisor Chris Anthony says crews remain optimistic despite conditions. Crews have been able to protect several structures that were threatened by the fire. There are flight restrictions in effect while air crews battle the Kinyon Road Fire.
