Lack Of Snow Hurting Idaho Resorts

The lack of snow this year may be making it easier on motorists and in general, those who don’t like bad winter weather.  However, for some who depend on the snow, like Bogus Basin Ski Resort near Boise, it can be economically devastating. Nearly a week after the latest opening on record, Bogus manager Mike Shirley says the resort has lost over $2-million dollars.  He figures they lost about $100,000 dollars every day during the Christmas break.    Shirley says he’s optimistic they’ll still have a season for pass holders to hit the slope this year, but the question on the mind of board members now, is what are they going to do about next year’s passes?   Shirley says the passes are still expected to go on sale next month, just like they always do on President’s Day, but for how much, is still unclear.  The resort is still about one big storm away from being able to open.  Locally, Magic Mountain south of Hansen is still not open nor is Soldier Mountain near Fairfield.  Both are still waiting for more snow.  Pomerelle south of Burley got about an inch of new snow earlier this week and has enjoyed a fairly normal ski season this year.  Pomerelle has about 30 inches of snow on top of the mountain according to the web site at Pomerelle dot com.
