LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Lewiston Police Department and the city of Lewiston will not release the names of the two officers who were injured when a gun accidentally fired in the department's basement at the end of a training session or any other details, citing privacy issues.

The Lewiston Tribune reports that the department and the city have denied public information requests filed by the newspaper.

The gunshot injured the hands of two officers after a training session for the force's SWAT team on Oct. 21.

Police Chief Chris Ankeny says the accidental discharge was the result of a policy violation and that the incident is still under investigation. He says he cannot release information about the investigation before it is complete.
