Local Businesses Plan for Saturday Crowd at Oktoberfest

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Downtown businesses and local vendors were in full swing Saturday morning setting up for another day of Oktoberfest.

Friday evening saw a lot of adults at some businesses along Maine Avenue such as Guppies Hot Rod Grille, said restaurant employee Kayla Ash, who on Saturday morning was setting up for the day’s activities outside the business. A smoker was already filling the air with the scent of bratwurst as she filled a basket with beer.

“Friday night was more of an adult crowd,” she said. “I think it was a little busier than it was last year.”

Others, like Mikey and Kerrie Amaya who own Mikey’s Kettle Korn, are aiming for a family audience. Mikey Amaya said he’s been selling kettle korn for about three years, often showing up at community events.

“Being Saturday we’re hoping to see more families come out,” Kerrie Amaya said.

At the corner of Main Avenue West and Gooding Street West, shiny cars from another era were being parked for the car show. Randy and Betsy Cox brought their black 1960 Ford Falcon, thundering the air with its 383 small-block Chevy engine.

Randy Cox said he’s owned the car for 41 years. When he recently saw Guppies owners Aaron Gupton advertise for the show, he decided to sign up.

On the other end of the street, on Main Avenue East near Hansen Street South, freelance artist Patrick Franklin was drawing a cattle's skull on the sidewalk as part of the Chalk Walk contest. He said he won first place in the contest last year for his work.

Today's Oktoberfest activities go from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown Twin Falls.
