Local Parents, Teachers, Discuss Education Reform

Parents and teachers met last night at an informational meeting put together by the Idaho Education Association to discuss Idaho’s proposed education overhaul.  About 30 parents and teachers attending the meeting at the Filer elementary school.  Both parents and teachers are concerned about two the plans main objectives…provide laptop computers for all 9^th graders and online courses.  They also expressed concern over the plan for larger class sizes and what they view as fewer teachers.  The overhaul plan being proposed by State School Superintendent Tom Luna was introduced this week in the Idaho Legislature.  The IEA has organized several meeting around the state to discuss the proposed plan.  An IEA spokesperson at the meeting said The proposed overhaul could destroy the public school system by cutting back teachers and making classrooms larger.
