BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Mexican national living in south-central Idaho and caught up in a sex-slave case has been sentenced to 12 months in prison followed by deportation due to illegally possessing a handgun.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday that U.S. District Chief Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered that a 9 mm pistol belonging to 36-year-old Oscar Ayala-Arizmendi be forfeited.

Authorities in May searched Ayala-Arizmendi's residence after a woman reported she escaped the house and accused Ayala-Arizmendi of holder her against her will as a sex slave.

The Twin Falls County Prosecutor's Office eventually withdrew felony rape and first-degree kidnapping charges. But during the search, authorities found a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.

U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson says individuals in the country illegally are prohibited from possessing firearms.
