BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A trial is under way in Ada County in the case of a 22-year-old man charged with causing the death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter last year by hitting her because she wouldn't go to sleep so he could play video games. Deputy Prosecutor Jill Longhurst told jurors Tuesday that the fatal injuries to Alaija Corbin of Garden City were caused by Jordan Everhart because he wanted the girl to go to bed. The Idaho Statesman reports Longhurst said the girl was hit by a solid object hard enough to cause a fatal brain injury. The toddler was taken to the hospital early on Oct. 8, 2011 and died a week later. Defense attorney Gus Cahill told jurors that prosecutors do not have enough evidence to support a murder charge.
