LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Transportation Department has granted a permit for an oversized load of oil refining equipment to begin its journey to Montana.

The permit granted Friday allows Bigge Crane to move the megaload from a port west of Lewiston, across northern Idaho and over to a refinery in Great Falls, Montana. The load is roughly 310 feet long, about 20 feet wide and weighs about 1 million pounds.

It will travel only at night and will be escorted by Idaho State Police. Such megaloads have sparked protests from some groups who fear they might harm scenic areas.
