Rock veterans Metallica have a new film, 'Metallica Through the Never,' set to hit theaters in IMAX 3D on September 27, so grab your old ratty Metallica t-shirts and your best baggy jeans and get ready to rock.

According to a press release, Nimrod Antal's trippy 3D rock film 'Metallica Through the Never' is being remastered for IMAX and will get a special one-week engagement at IMAX theaters starting September 27, followed by a wide release on October 4.

Antal ('Predators') uses a mix of documentary-style footage edited together with a traditional narrative about a band crew member (Dane DeHaan, 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2') sent out on a mission during Metallica's sold-out set at a live arena, and how that one mission changes his entire life.

Whether or not you're a fan of the old-school, head-banging band, this new film promises to be an interesting and engaging experience. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is pretty stoked, too:

“For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought. ‘Hey look, Mom, I’m 50 feet tall (finally!)’ There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience.”

So maybe think about spending the next few months growing out your hair for optimal head banging, yeah?
