Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Minidoka County Sheriff Kevin Halverson has reached a plea agreement following the felony charge of misuse of public money by a public officer. Monday in Magistrate court, Halverson agreed to turn in his resignation as sheriff of Minidoka County by 5 p.m.

He is charged with using a county gas credit card for personal use. It’s alleged he charged $241.75 on that card. The proposed plea agreement calls for Halverson to resign  and not hold public office in his lifetime. By agreeing, other charges discovered during the state’s investigation will not be filed. During his upcoming district court arraignment he will enter his plea which is expected to be guilty.

The state is recommending that Halverson receive a four year suspended sentence with two years fixed. Any county jail time will be determined by the court. Halverson will also be required to undergo alcohol and mental health evaluations.
