KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho - Coeur d'Alene Public Schools confirmed Wednesday that the missing Athol teen who is presumed drowned was a student at Coeur d'Alene High School.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office along with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to Lake Coeur d'Alene off Arrow Point for a reported drowning Tuesday evening.

At about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, deputies received a report that a 16-year-old boy from Athol, Idaho fell out of a friend's boat and immediately disappeared in the water.

Classmates and friends took to social media to talk about the presumed drowning victim, Reggie Nault.

Coeur d'Alene High School was open Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for any student or adult who may need to talk with someone one-on-one regarding the accident involving Nault.

"Please know that students are already communicating amongst themselves through social media about their friend and classmate's death," said Laura Rumpler, the Director of Communications at Coeur d'Alene Public Schools. "We encourage parents to be aware of your teen's social media activities and encourage them to not engage in rumors or spread information that has not been confirmed."

Reggie Nault through the years.

Emergency crews responded to the area where Nault reportedly went underwater and immediately began searching the surface for evidence but nothing was found.
Deputies said the area he was reported missing is about 400 to 500 yards north of Arrow Point and the average water depth is about 130 feet.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Sonar Search Team initiated searches on Wednesday. They are asking boaters to steer clear of the SONAR boat which is searching about a half mile northwest of Arrow Point.

According to reports, the two other people on the boat were also teenage boys. Deputies said the two were not injured.

Authorities said at this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this event.

Officials said the boat was moving at the time, but they do not how fast.

If confirmed, this would be the second drowning in the past eight days on Lake Coeur d'Alene and deputies said neither victim was wearing a life jacket.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said they want to remind boaters to wear life jackets or personal flotation devices during their recreational use of the waters in Kootenai County.
