‘Mission: Impossible 5′ Will Move Forward Starring Tom Cruise

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL
Paramount

Though Tom Cruise may have gone through a rough patch in his career, that’s now completely over as he’s being brought back to star in ‘Mission: Impossible 5‘ for Paramount. This has been rumored for a while, but it was confirmed today.

Deadline reports that Tom Cruise has signed on for the fifth film in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, which has had different directors for each entry (so far it’s been Brian De Palma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird), with the rumor being that Tom Cruise is getting along so well with Christopher McQuarrie (who wrote ‘Valkyrie,’ and wrote and directed ‘Jack Reacher‘) that McQuarrie will helm this next chapter in the ‘M:I’ franchise, but McQuarrie’s involvement has yet to be confirmed.

But if he does it, it would be interesting as both Cruise and McQuarrie have talked about also doing another ‘Reacher’ film, on top of Cruise being involved in Guy Ritchie‘s version of ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.‘ which would mean Cruise would have three possible franchises going at once. This is in stark contrast to Cruise’s career when ‘Mission: Impossible: 3′ came out. The third entry didn’t perform to expectations, so much so that when Bird initially started ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ there was talk of handing off the franchise to Jeremy Renner.

It’s unknown who else will return, but we’d bet Simon Pegg shows up in the next one as well.
