SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A 29-year-old Montana woman accused of striking an Idaho man with a barbell has been charged with felony domestic violence resulting in traumatic injury.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that Charlyn Marie Chapman of Anaconda was charged Friday in 1st District Court in northern Idaho. Witnesses tell police that Chapman struck a 38-year-old man at least four times in the hand and once in the back of the head.

Police say the blow to the head caused the man to lose feeling in his extremities for a short time. He told police was attacked when he tried to prevent Chapman from cutting herself. At the court appearance Friday, Chapman disputed those allegations and said the man was abusing her. Chapman has been appointed a public defender.
