MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (AP) — The Elmore County Sheriff's Department has identified two Mountain Home residents apparently involved in a murder-suicide.

The sheriff's department issued a statement Monday that said 42-year-old Michelle G. Gutierrez was shot and killed by 49-year-old Jaye M. Houtcooper on Sunday, and that Houtcooper then turned the gun on himself. Their bodies were found when after deputies went to their home to investigate a report of a possible shooting.

Chief Deputy Mike Barclay says investigators determined that the couple started having relationship problems Saturday night, and that Gutierrez was attempting to leave the home when she was killed. The investigation is still underway.
