Multiple Car Crashes in Idaho From Icy Conditions

MERIDIAN (KTVB) -- One person has been taken to the hospital after a crash on Ustick Road Monday morning.

According to police, the vehicle was going too fast down Ustick Road when the driver tried to turn left onto Curt Drive.

The vehicle slid into the ditch, trapping the person inside.

Emergency responders had to extricate the injured driver from the car.

That person was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, but did not have any major injuries according to police.

The driver of an SUV in an earlier crash escaped injury when his vehicle rolled upside down on eastbound I-84.

The wreck happened around 5 a.m. near Ten Mile Road. The SUV landed on its roof, but the driver was able to get out.

Trooper Janet Murakami said the icy conditions contributed to the crash.

"We had a GMC Envoy that was driving a little too fast for the conditions of those slushy roadways and lost control," she said.

Freezing rain in the Treasure Valley has left many roads slick.

An ambulance was sent to the wreck as a precaution, but no one was seriously injured in the crash. The driver was the only person in the vehicle when it rolled.

Murakami said ISP has already handled several weather-related crashes so far this morning, and urged drivers to stay safe.

"Please take a little extra time, slow down, increase your following distance and just be very cautious," she said.
