COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho city is looking at eliminating a local ordinance banning weapons from parades and festivals enacted years ago when Aryan Nations members used to march annually. The Coeur d’Alene Press reports that the Coeur d’Alene General Services Committee on Monday voted to have the city attorney’s office review the constitutionality of the law. Their findings will be presented to the city council. City Councilman Steve Adams says he wants to eliminate the ban because he thinks it’s unnecessary and unconstitutional. City Attorney Mike Gridley says the ordinance was enacted following conflicts between marchers and spectators at parades. Gridley says Aryan Nations marches through town attracted many protesters. Adams says the gun ban was just an over-reaction to Aryan Nations parades.
